Master in Personal Status Law

Learning Outcomes

Graduates of the program will:

• Demonstrate critical awareness of legal issues, theories, current developments, and emerging topics in personal status law and Islamic jurisprudence.
• Possess comprehensive knowledge of the sources, theories, and procedural and substantive rules of personal status law in Oman and comparative legal systems.
• Apply relevant concepts, principles, and research methods, including critical analysis and evaluation, to legal issues and challenges.
• Identify complex problems, concepts, and theories in personal status law and propose innovative and creative solutions.
• Think independently and make personal judgments in matters related to personal status law based on evidence and knowledge.
• Adhere to ethical principles governing the legal profession and work effectively in diverse and professional environments.

Program Completion Requirements

• Complete all courses with a cumulative GPA of no less than 3.00/4.00. Students cannot register for the thesis unless they meet this GPA requirement.
• Successfully defend the master’s thesis according to the university's thesis preparation guidelines.
• Achieve a minimum grade of 2.7/4.00 in master’s courses and 2.00/4.00 in bridging courses.

Graduate Diploma in Higher Studies:

A student may be awarded a graduate Higher diploma in the following cases:

1. If the student wishes to withdraw from the program without registering for the thesis, provided all required and elective courses are successfully completed.
2. If the student registered for the thesis decides to withdraw without completing it, provided all required courses are successfully completed.
3. If the student fails the thesis defense according to the university’s guidelines.
4. If the student fails to achieve the required cumulative GPA after completing all required courses.

Thesis Registration Requirements

In addition to the university’s general guidelines for thesis preparation and registration:

• Students may register for the master’s thesis after completing all coursework with a minimum GPA of 3.00/4.00 (B).
• Thesis evaluation follows the numerical grading system adopted by the university.
• Students must achieve a minimum grade of 3.00/4.00 (B) to pass the thesis.
• In case of failing to achieve the required grade, a second defense is allowed under conditions outlined in the thesis preparation guide.
